Pure Python read/write support for ESRI Shapefile format Currently the sample census blockgroup shapefile referenced in the examples is available on the GitHub. Astropy most of the common coordinate systems (ICRS, FK4, FK5, and Galactic, AltAz) and users can define their own systems if needed.
